This wasn't a particularly easy night with strong North cross winds blowing off of the river. Tougher for some than the winds though was the avoidance of the large number OBC Tuesday Night Tour riders who chose to do their ride on the time trial course during the time trial! Hopefully the OBC will better coordinate its programmes in the future so that both the WTT and Tuesday Night rides can proceed safely and not interfere with each other. Despite the aforementioned difficulties, three women managed to improve upon their previous 15km database bests - and these improvements were all significant! Laura Johnson, who with Alex Buffa's faster wheels took a minute and six seconds off of her previous best of 26:22 was the most improved with a 13.64% improvement in her cube speed. Lindsay Los has improved her 15km database best three times this year, this time by about 5% with her new best of 24:19, 24 seconds faster than her previous best. Finally Patricia Slaunwhite was the 3rd most improved (about 2%) with a new database best of 26:34, 11 seconds better than her previous mark. Note that first place woman Alicia Berthiaume tied her previous database best of 23:51 which was first set on 2011-Jul-19, but Alison Ingham and Nicole LaViolette who tied for second place with 24:14 were far off of their previous 2011 WTT bests of 23:31 and 23:28, respectively. In terms of season-series improvements tonight, nine improved and one tied her season series best. In addition to those already mentioned for their database improvements, the season-series improvers are Nicole MacDonald (28:25, performance ratio 1.0813), Christina Czaban (24:40, performance ratio 1.0307, Zoe Panchen (26:01, performance ratio 1.0291), Karen Byskov (30:05, performance ratio 1.0201), Lili Caron (34:56, performance ratio 1.0129) and Mary Ajersch (26:34, performance ratio 1.0094). One rider, Anna Delaney did not finish - She crashed into a cyclist who veered out into her path as she tried to pass.
Note that you may check to see where you are in terms of the WTT category rankings (best five WTT rides with four of those having to be 15km events and the fifth being either a 10km or a 15km WTT) by clicking here. There are currently 28 women in the rankings.
These results were posted on the OBC site circa 21:30 on 2011-Aug-16 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
